Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams is a side scrolling shooter, originally released for the arcades in 1989. It is the first game in the Cotton series that was later ported to the Sharp X68000 (in 1993 by Electronic Arts), the NEC TurboGrafx-CD (in 1993 by Hudson Soft), the Neo Geo Pocket Color (in 2000) and the Sony PlayStation.

Cotton - Fantastic Night DreamsSTORY / GAMEPLAY
You control a young witch named Cotton, flying with a magic broomstick and shooting hordes of numerous (and bizarre) enemies in order to put an end to an evil, supernatural nature. In your hard quest, you have the aid of a fairy named Silk and helps you use extra powered shots against the enemies. Your weaponry can be upgraded by grabbing power-ups while there are also a few health potions to collect in each level. Note that you will also confront and early mini-boss as well as the classic, powerful boss at the end of each stage.
The title was followed by several sequels and variations and also appeared on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, the Super Nintendo and later on the 32bit Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn consoles. Note that the NeoGeo Pocket version was released several years later (in 2000).

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The NeoGeo Pocket version has colorful and varied graphics, with a number of nice background details taken from the arcade original. The sprites move a bit jerky at times, but still, the game is playable enough.
As for the sound, the game includes some nice in-game tunes but an only adequate (in variety and quality) sound effects.
